Plagiarism Policy

Social, Science, Mathematical, and Technical Education Review (SSMTER) is committed to upholding academic integrity and ethical publishing practices. Plagiarism in any form is strictly prohibited and will be treated as serious misconduct.


Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  • Direct copying of text, ideas, data, or figures from other sources without proper citation;

  • Paraphrasing substantial parts of another work without appropriate acknowledgment;

  • Self-plagiarism, including the reuse of significant portions of one’s own previously published work without proper citation;

  • Submitting a manuscript that is substantially similar to work published or under review elsewhere.


Plagiarism Screening

All manuscripts submitted to Social, Science, Mathematical, and Technical Education Review are screened for plagiarism using reliable plagiarism detection software before being sent for peer review.


Similarity Threshold

As a general guideline, the journal applies the following similarity standards:

  • ≤ 20% overall similarity: Manuscript may proceed to peer review, provided no single source exceeds acceptable limits.

  • 21–30% similarity: Manuscript requires revision and clarification before further consideration.

  • > 30% similarity: Manuscript may be rejected due to excessive similarity.

Similarity percentages are evaluated carefully, considering legitimate overlaps such as references, methods, or commonly used terminology.


Author Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts are free from plagiarism and properly cite all sources. Proper quotation, paraphrasing, and referencing practices must be followed at all times.


Editorial Actions

If plagiarism is identified at any stage of the publication process, the editorial board may take the following actions:

  • Request manuscript revision or clarification;

  • Reject the manuscript;

  • Retract the article if plagiarism is discovered after publication;

  • Notify the author’s affiliated institution in cases of serious misconduct.


Appeals and Clarifications

Authors may provide explanations or appeals if plagiarism is suspected. The editorial board will review all explanations fairly before making a final decision.
